Last Friday we were treated to a great program by Barb Swanson. It was pretty exciting to learn how this organization works and is able to provide housing to deserving persons who are just below the level of doing it all on their own. Habitat lends a hand to persons who are financially challenged, so that they will be able to afford to have a home of their own. It was interesting to hear about how ownership seems to reshape the way people sometimes think and act.  The old phrase " having some skin in the game" certainly seems  to be true of the people that Habitat helps. to keep the program sustainable the organization requires not only sweat equity of approximately 250 hours of hands on help, but they also have courses in the  how to of managing and maintaining your home, as well as some classes in money management. This would probably be a good idea for conventional lenders to offer to their clients also. Thank you Barb for a really great program.
