Last Friday we ended a great fund raiser with a social night at the Public House. What a great success. And it was only fitting that the project leader sold the winning ticket. A big thankyou to Tom and his committee for a tremendous job that made a lot of money for our club to spend helping others. I haven't heard whether the winner chose the Jeep or the money. A side benefit was the great social event. On our way out I thanked Katherine for hosting our event and she commented that it was great to have the place full and lively again. We all need to continue to patronize the Public House and keep the business going. Plans are in the works to start meeting live again with the option for those that desire to attend in a virtual manner via Zoom. The Country Club has expressed a desire to have us back at their facility, but a decision has not yet been made as to our meeting place. There was an interesting article about bees in a recent Rotarian Magazine. Bees are very interesting because they must work together as a unit to make the colony thrive and survive. The Queen lays the eggs which hatch into bees with different duties and purposes depending on what they are fed. They give directions to food sources by dancing to indicate the direction of the source. The faster they dance, the better the food source. They have servant bees to feed the young, workers to collect the pollen and nectar, drones to mate with the Queen and provide direction when swarming, guards to watch the hive entrance, and the all important Queen. Amazing creatures. Another article made the point that even though Rotary received top ratings for Non-Profits use of resources, Rotary needs to document the effect of the work they do and advertise it. It makes the public's impression and support of Rotary much more positive. We talked about this briefly in our break out sessions when we discussed public relations. We do a great job of advertising our events, but sometimes the public doesn't realize Rotary is behind the event. We need to be more effective at "branding" our events. Just a thought. |
