Every spring, the Rotary Club of Woodstock proudly awards two scholarships to outstanding graduating seniors from Woodstock-area high schools—each reflecting a different but equally important way to strengthen our community.

Our $5,000 Service Above Self Scholarship recognizes a student who has demonstrated meaningful, sustained commitment to serving others. This year, we introduced a simplified and refocused application to better understand not just what students have accomplished, but how they have truly lived out Rotary’s guiding principle. The revised form invites applicants to share specific examples of service, their personal role, and the impact of their efforts—along with how their future plans will continue to serve others. As Community Service Director, I organize this scholarship with the support of our dedicated committee.

We also offer the William “Bill” Frejd Vocational Scholarship, honoring a founding Rotarian who believed deeply in the value of skilled trades. Designed for students pursuing associate degrees, certificates, or diplomas in vocational fields, this scholarship supports those preparing for essential, hands-on careers that keep our community strong. This scholarship is organized by Peter Knapp, our Vocational Service Director, and provides tuition assistance to full-time students entering accredited programs requiring less than a four-year degree. Our club budgets up to $2,500 for this scholarship. 

Together, these scholarships celebrate both service leadership and workforce readiness—investing in young people who will shape the future of Woodstock in meaningful and lasting ways.
