If you spend any time with our Woodstock Rotarian, Kim Keefe (KK), the subject of pickles will come up early. Actually… it’s Pickleball. Which may or may not involve actual pickles—I’m still unclear.
I tried Pickleball once in the summer of 2025 at an adult camp in Michigan with my wife, Kim Brix (KB). When I mentioned this to KK, an invite to her Pickleball event appeared in my inbox almost immediately—no cooling-off period.
KB and I hesitated. We hadn’t played since. We questioned our skills, our attire, and whether we’d be “those people” everyone politely avoids and/or laughs at and makes fun of.
But we went—and we’re glad we did. Turns out, we fit right in with the rest of the beautifully mediocre players. Everyone was welcoming, we had a blast, and yes… there were actual pickles.
Moral of the story: when KK starts talking pickles, lean in. It might just lead to a surprisingly good time. Now KK is talking about Peter J. Thomas—a dynamic, multi-genre cellist—at the Church House on May 22nd. I guess we should CLICK and plan to BE THERE!
