Excerpt from-April issue of Wine Spectator.
What happens when you combine this neoprohibitionist movement and the cannabis industry? A poll this year by Civic Science asked Americans taking part in Dry January what they were “enjoying in lieu of Alcohol.” They found that 20% of respondents said non-alcoholic beverages, while 21% said cannabis or CBD products. Cannabis companies report that January is their most profitable month. Dry January is actually High January.
The simple fact is, most everyone needs something in their life to take the edge off, to “Kill the Snakes.” (Willie Nelson) I’m (the author) not saying the cannabis industry is the mastermind behind the recent attacks on wine. But it sure seems happy to amplify and profit off them. Let’s not kid ourselves that wine is poison and cannabis is perfectly healthy. You’re seeking out something intoxicating to enjoy and take a little edge off life. Telling yourself something else, to quote Willie, is crazy. End Quote.
