Due to a variety of issues I have missed the last two meetings and I am behind on club activities.  Summer is closed down and fall is upon us.  And as we read the paper and review the calendar of events we see a variety of events based on the fall season.  Many of these events are fund raisers sponsored by charities and non profits.  It is a great benefit to our community if we plan our social outings and "things to do on the weekend" list to include some of these events.  There are a variety of activities with food and drink and music to entertain us.  So get out there and spend your fun money for a charitable cause.

Ramblings of a country boy.  Fall is upon us and we should take time to travel the back roads and watch the color changes in the trees and fields.  Now that the days of sun light are decreasing, the energy producing cells in the leaves are reducing their production of chlorophyl and the green color is fading allowing the sugars in the leaves to show there colors.  Makes for spectacular viewing.

I remember when I was a wee lad my family would drive to Wisconsin to view the migrating geese.  Now we have them year around to the point of being a nuisance.  Their call used to be a sign of Spring and Fall.  Now their call  signalling the changing seasons has been replaced by the call of the Sand Hill Cranes migrating.  We never had them around years ago.  And now we have resident Vultures to help with road kill cleanup.  Bird populations are improved over the days of DDT use.  I never saw Hummingbirds in this area years ago and now they are summer residents.  So we have made strides in improving out environment.  Let's keep up the good work.  See you on Friday.
