The (Un)Official Rotary Delegation for District Governor Nominee Marlene Frisbie had a successful exchange with the the Rotary Club of Hopkins Bay, in Hopkins Belize last week.
The delegation enjoyed a meeting with the Hopkins Club at a local establishment Culture Vibes- they too meet for lunch. We were treated to chicken with rice and beans. The Hopkins Rotarians shared their experiences at District Conference which outshined our conference - multilingual presentations with translation services, fireworks, drinks and dancing, boat rides. (Not that Mimi and Laura didn't make the most out of shaking Paul Harris's hand.)
This is a new club - chartered just a little over a year ago, but is clearly called to service. They had a prospective member show and the conversation centered on the environment and cleaning up the trash - the need for prevention (dispose of it properly) and treatment (clean up the already created mess.) And they talked about the challenges of getting communication out - their bulletin is actually a printed newspaper published every 6 weeks or so complete with ads and articles. While the club is different, the culture is different - even the 4 way test is a little different (they sing it - that would be the downfall of our club) it still felt like one big community.
