A few weeks back, PDG Lyle Staab who is the District's Foundation Chair presented on the Rotary Foundation, Polio Plus and the Paul Harris recognition program. Every member of our club is both a donor to the Foundation and to Polio Plus. We collect the funds through the quarterly dues and Roscoe makes the donation on our individual behalf. And every donation also earns us Foundation Recognition points. Last week, we talked about the Foundation Recognition points. Here is some information from Rotary International on Foundation Recognition points - Foundation recognition points are awarded to donors who contribute to The Rotary Foundation through the Annual Fund, the PolioPlus Fund, the Disaster Response Fund, or an approved global grant. You receive one recognition point for every U.S. dollar you contribute to these funds. Contributions to the Endowment Fund aren’t eligible for recognition points. You can also transfer Foundation recognition points to others to help them qualify for Paul Harris Fellow or Multiple Paul Harris Fellow recognition. Foundation recognition points belong to the original donor until the donor uses or transfers them and until the donor’s death. The surviving spouse or partner of a Major Donor may also use the points. How do I transfer Foundation recognition points? Recognition points can be transferred only in groups of at least 100 points at a time, and you need to complete and sign the Recognition and Transfer Request. The points cannot be transferred from a person to a club or district. In addition: • Individual donors are the only people allowed to transfer points from their own account. • Club presidents are the only people allowed to transfer points from a club account. • District governors are the only people allowed to transfer points from a district account. Can Foundation recognition points of deceased club members be transferred? Not in most cases. These points become invalid unless the person was a Major Donor in which case their spouse or partner can use or donate the points during their lifetime. Can a business or organization become a Paul Harris Fellow? No. Only people can become Paul Harris Fellows. However, businesses and organizations that contribute US$1,000 or more or transfer 1,000 points or more can receive certificates of appreciation. Can a deceased person become a Paul Harris Fellow? Yes. A donor can honor a person who has died by requesting a Memorial Paul Harris Fellow designation. I (John) have a list of Foundation Recognition points for each club member. But, if you have registered with MyRotary through the RI website, you can look at your own donor history and Foundation Recognition through the "Donor History Report" |
