How To Complete A Make-Up

1

Read a variety of current articles in our Programs section and/or choose articles from our Archived Programs list and/or information from our Avenues of Service pages. You will be required to answer questions.  There is space on the makeup request form for up to three articles to be reviewed, however you will need to read more than three to meet your 30 minute visit obligation.

2

At the end of your 30 minute visit click on Make-up Request Form from the drop-down menu at top of page OR the bottom of each make-up program.

3

Read Makeup Request Form carefully, and follow instructions. A Make-Up Form will appear once you press the SUBMIT button (one time only) and an email copy will be sent to the email address you provided.

PRINT YOUR MAKE-UP FORM

Once your make-up appears, if you know the email address, you can also click on File, Send and email a copy to your club secretary.

Remember, as Greeter this week, you need to arrive at Woodstock Country Club early to greet members, visiting Rotarians, and guests.  You also provide the pre-meal prayer, check attendance, announce guests and visiting Rotarians, manage the marble drawing and provide "Fun & Frolics."  If you are unable to fulfill your greeter obligation, please contact the next person in the greeter rotation to take your place.

Homeless Teenager From France  Needs Family
Chris Cantrell is asking all Rotarians and their friends to help him find a place for a currently homeless boy from France. That's right. Our club has agreed to take an exchange student for the upcoming year, but at the present time Chris has not been able to have anyone volunteer to be a host family. THOMAS DI FAZIO FROM LYON, FRANCE WILL BE 16 YEARS OLD WHEN HE IS SUPPOSED TO ARRIVE IN THIS COUNTRY IN EARLY AUGUST. THE RULES FOR EXCHANGE STUDENTS REQUIRE THAT THEY HAVE A HOST FAMILY BEFORE THEY CAN APPLY FOR A VISA. THOMAS IS REPORTED TO BE FLUENT IN ENGLISH AND IS VERY OUTGOING. HE SHOULD BE A REAL PRIZE AS AN EXCHANGE STUDENT. THE SCHOOL HE ATTENDS WILL BE DETERMINED BY THE FIRST HOST FAMILY.
Linda and I have hosted several exchange students and they have greatly enriched the lives of our family. This June we will be going to Austria to visit with a former exchange student that we hosted about 30 years ago. He now has 3 children, two in college and one in high school. He and his family and our family have visited each other several times.
For those who have never hosted an exchange student, have no fear, these kids are screened before they are chosen to represent their country's and home towns as ambassadors.  They often make great big brothers or sisters. Think of it this way......Raising teenagers can be a challenge so think about hosting an exchange student so you can practice on them before you screw up your own teenagers.
Think of hosting a student not as a responsibility and chore but as an opportunity to enrich your life with an experience that  will give you wonderful memories for the rest of your life.
If you are interested in hosting or have a friend to whom you would like to offer such an opportunity, please call Chris Cantrell at 815-341-2916 at your earliest convenience.
Lloyd Shaw Becomes Grandfather
Congratulations to Lloyd for becoming a grandfather of sorts. Of course the offspring didn't look like any other members of Lloyd's family. Four legs and a lot  of hair is what a goat is supposed to look like. I am sure your daughter in law was very grateful to have such a good Veterinarian on call.
Triangle Clean-Up
The Rotary Triangle Park is in need of a Spring cleaning and touch up. Larry Hansen has been doing an outstanding job upholding the good name of  Rotary by keeping the small park in great shape with a limited number of hands  to help him. It would be nice to see a big turnout to make the work a very short project  that could end with lunch and a refreshing drink. We could also reinstate an old theme like stuffing as many people as possible  into a phone booth as possible. If we all show up we could probably get into the Guiness Book of world records for the most people in Triangle Park at one time. Our club membership could probably fill up the entire park. Please join Larry Hansen and other Rotarians for our clean up the Rotary Triangle, starting at 7:00AM on Saturday April 28th.  Remember many hands makes light work!

If you want more details, contact Larry!

News for the week
Busy time of year with many fund raisers and projects in the fire.  Top priority item is the Beach Party.  No excuses and running out of time.  Get it done what needs to be done and then save time to help decorate the day before the event Saturday, May 12. Try and schedule part of Friday the 11th for set up.

Our potted oak trees are due to arrive Friday the 20th of April.  Because they are in pots, they do not have to be planted immediately.  However, the planting  should occur as soon as the ground is dry enough to plant.  Anyone interested in helping with the planting please contact me.

The buffet idea for lunch seems to be going well.  I think everyone actually is seated with their food faster than the table service was allowing.  Please share your comments with Lori concerning the new food menu and the buffet service.

I hope Laura showed up at the correct meeting last Friday for our monthly club social.  I was planning to attend, but an emergency caesarian needed to be performed on my daughter-in- laws goat.  That took preference.  Doing surgery in an unheated barn is just not the same as having a well-lit, well heated surgery room.  Friday night was bad enough, but having to do another one at 3 AM on Sunday morning was a real cold project.  I went from the barn directly to the hot shower.  Mamas and babies are doing fine.  So the wonderful feeling of Grandpa being able to bring new life into the world far outweighs the cold  and numbed fingers.  So much for retirement.

Thought for the day:  Don't give up on Spring.  The tulips and daffodils are struggling to break ground and the hawks, owls and geese are all sitting on eggs.  Should be a good weekend to get outside.  Just "Do it!!!"
Volunteers Needed for Girls on the Run
Girls on the Run is an organization that works with young ladies in our schools and schools throughout the region to provide a positive experience and atmosphere for them to grow and gain confidence. Michelle Stien,  the Race Director for the Girls on the Run 5k, is asking for our help as a club.  Her club hosts a major community event at Woodstock North High School on Sunday, May 20, 2018.  They are in need of approximately 80 volunteers for their event and she wanted to reach out to our club, specifically for Parking Volunteers. Below is a link to their volunteer sign up. Feel free to share the link with non club members as well!  http://www.signupgenius.com/go/5080e4daea92da5fd0-5kvolunteers Thank you in advance for your assistance from Michelle Stien GOTR NWIL Race Director
Beach Party! Beach Party! Beach Party!
Beach Party is just around the corner - just six weeks from Friday's meeting. We should all be working hard on selling tickets, putting together live auction packages and raffle baskets.
