The most important event scheduled for July 30 is described very well in last week's bulletin, so I kept it. Check with Mac as to volunteering to help out with the event. I just read Bill Gates just donated several BILLION dollars to the Bill and Linda Gates Foundation for distribution to charitable groups. It will be interesting to see if there will be more grant money to Rotary's Polio Plus program. The program is so close to succeeding. It's a shame religion and politics are holding up the conclusion of a long battle. If you still have your May issue of the Rotary Magazine, I recommend you dig it out and read the article entitled "Is it bias or is it bigotry?" Very short read, but very enlightening. There is also a link to more information on bias at my.rotary.org. Be a good community supporter and some fun at the same time by attending Gaver's Barn Dance this weekend. Great fund raiser for a wonderful cause. The outdoors report: The prairie is in full bloom which means the butterflies are numerous. The insect world is very active with the warm weather, but the mosquitos have been very tolerable. Unfortunately, the ticks are being found in large numbers when walking in the woods. Learn more about them at the meeting on Friday. The first hatch of many songbirds is already flying, and the second hatch is incubating. The late nesters: Goldfinches and Cedar Waxwings and just beginning to locate nesting sites. The Goldfinches wait for the thistles to go to seed and the Cedar Waxwings like to feed on berries. The rabbit population is booming which means the predators have plenty of food to feed their young. Such is the circle of life in the wild. Friday's meeting at Oliver's under the guidance of our new Pres. Be there! |
