Remember, as Greeter this week, you need to arrive early at Oliver's to register visiting Rotarians and guests (collect guest lunch fee of $16.00). You also provide the pre-meal prayer, check attendance, announce guests and visiting Rotarians, manage the marble drawing and provide "Fun & Frolics." If you are unable to fulfill your greeter obligation, please contact the next person in the greeter rotation to take your place.
Service project this Saturday, Aug. 13. Meet at the Rotary Triangle at 7:30 am. Many hands working with trimmers and rakes will make the triangle attractive once more.
6440 District Governor Bill Kmiecik visits this Friday—Bill will meet with our BOD at 10:45 am this Friday at Oliver’s followed by our regular club meeting at 12:10 pm.
Our meeting last Friday was held at the Fair Grounds. It is always a good time to connect with the larger community and broaden our understanding of the work of the leadership and volunteers (200) who work the fair. The local 4H Clubs also made an excellent presentation with Steve Reich applauding his consent. Some of our Rotary gang even stayed around after the program and lunch to volunteer.
Riko Fugita was our inbound exchange student for the 2019-20 school year. Unfortunately, her year was cut short due to COVID-19. She has returned to the area and is staying with her host parents, the Gilmores. There is still a lot of things she didn’t get to do when she was here last. If you have time this very kind young lady would love to hear from you and spend time with you.
Chris Cantwell, our then Youth Exchange Director, is coordinating her short time. Please give Chris a call to arrange a visit or activity. (815)341-2916.
Our 2015-16 outbound exchange student was Kelsei Morefield. She spent the year in Austria and it changed her life. I was just talking with her proud dad, Derik. After returning from her exchange year, she completed high school and then attended UIC where she majored in Education and Germanic Studies. She did so well in Germanic Studies that UIC offered her a full ride to their master's program. She has now graduated with her masters from UIC and is going to continue her education in the Ph.D. program in Germanic Studies at the University of Michigan (again on a full ride!)
