Remember, as Greeter this week, you need to arrive at Woodstock Country Club to register visiting Rotarians and guests (collect guest lunch fee of $18.00). You also provide the pre-meal prayer, check attendance, announce guests and visiting Rotarians, manage the marble drawing, and provide "Fun & Frolics." If you are unable to fulfill your greeter obligation, please contact the next person in the greeter rotation to take your place.
From what this Bulletin Writer could tell, it was a brisk but glorious day for the 10th anniversary of the Woodstock Ale Fest. Rotary was very well represented! The goal of the Woodstock Ale Fest is to showcase American craft beer while supporting the Woodstock community. The net proceeds from the fest benefit Independence Health & Therapy. Bravo to John, Dave, and all the volunteers who work tirelessly to organize and execute this amazing event.
Oct. 13, 14, 15: Theater 121’s ‘Puffs’. Go see the show Puffs: Or Seven Increasingly Eventful Years at a Certain School of Magic at the Woodstock Opera House. For seven years a certain boy wizard went to a certain Wizard School and conquered evil. This, however, is not his story. This is the story of the Puffs... who just happened to be there, too. Saturday, Oct. 14. 9a-12p: Electronics Recycling Event.City of Woodstock is partnering with Environmental Defenders of McHenry County, McHenry County Department of Health, and Elgin Recycling to bring this (mostly) FREE recycling event to our community. It will be held at the McHenry Co. Administration Building, 667 Ware Rd. in Woodstock. They will be accepting various electronic waste items (some with a fee). Also accepted: textiles and clothing, clean Styrofoam, alkaline batteries ($1/lb.), fluorescent tubes and bulbs ($1 ea.), paper for shredding. For all the details, visit this link.
Saturday, Oct. 14. 1p-5p: Woodstock Wine Walk on the Historic Square.Grab your friends and enjoy a fun afternoon out in Woodstock! Sip and shop your way around downtown Woodstock and the Historic Square during this fun-filled autumn afternoon. Guests will be able to enjoy samples of 30+ wines (and other adult beverages) while snacking on tasty bites all while visiting over a dozen locations. Tickets start at $50 if purchased in advance. Monday, Oct. 16. 6p-8p: Bingo, Burgers, and Brews at Kishwaukee Brewing Co.Head on over for some burgers, bingo, and beer as Kishwaukee partners with Smash’d Burger to support a great cause – Veterans Path to Hope. For games, the cost is $2 per bingo sheet or 6 bingo sheets for $10. Information can be found on this website.
Wednesday, Oct. 18. 5:30-7:30: The 101 Small Business Workshop Series: Legal Issues in Entrepreneurship. Hosted at Stage Left Café, The Woodstock Area Chamber of Commerce & Industry, in conjunction with several other partner agencies, presents this wonderful workshop by Manager of the Illinois Small Business Development Center at McHenry County College, Mark Piekos. If you are a Chamber Member, the cost to attend is $10. Non-members pay $20. All the details can be found at the event site.
Thursday, Oct. 19. 10a-noon: Woodstock Fine Arts Association's Creative Living Series presents Homer Hickam, “Aim High: Stories and Inspiration from a Real-Life Rocket Boy” at Woodstock Opera House. Hear from the man who wrote Rocket Boys, the incredible memoir that inspired the film October Sky. Friday, Oct. 20. 8p-10p: Live Jazz at Stage Left Café. Jazz on the Square's "Jazz Night" takes place on the third Friday of every month at Stage Left. Their mission is to provide great live jazz performances and education in Northern Illinois. Presented by Jazz on the Square. $5 cover charge at the door.
Sunday, Oct. 22. Noon-4p: Witches and Wizards of Woodstock.Head to the historic Woodstock Square for an afternoon of fun for all ages – from the magical talking hat, the Lumos Quidditch squad, a fantasy-themed trivia contest, to scavenger hunts, live music, costume contest, games, crafts, shopping, amazing food, and all manner of entertainment, it will prove to be an absolutely magical good time! It was a chilly morning in Crystal Lake, but that did not prevent the hundreds of attendees and participants from having another successful (and emotional) Walk to End Alzheimer's. Held annually in more than 600 communities nationwide, Walk to End Alzheimer's is the world's largest event to raise awareness and funds for Alzheimer's care, support and research. The McHenry County Walk's fundraising goal was $140,000, and I'm proud to say that we surpassed that goal -- and monies are still coming in. My team, The Unforgettables, raised over $10,000 just this year. I'm really proud of that. THANK YOU to all who have contributed.
